Only 3000 Male African Lions Left in the Wild- It is estimated…

Magnificent dead male lion with great white hunter gloating behind

With an estimated total African Lion population of about twenty thousand, and only 3000 of those are male lions, the species’ gene pool is at risk of becoming considerably less diversified.

Great white trophy hunters, dentists from the USA, Texas big game hunters, local agricultural and population pressures,  too many AK47’s in the hands of tribal herders and local farmers, poor local and national government management.- all this is putting huge stress on the remaining African lion populations.

The African Lion, once King of the Beasts has shrunk from much larger population base (100,000 estimated within the last ten years). In some parts of Africa lions are becoming hard to find!
