NEWFOUNDLAND SCALLOP FISHERIES COLLAPSE-OIL TO BLAME

The community of Port Au Port Bay in Canada’s Province of Newfoundland has been experiencing oil leakage problems for several years due to one or more  leaks from old abandoned well exploration sites.

Usually there is a slow leakage into the scallop bay, but sometimes it comes in larger quantities. Authorities are not sure if it is caused by a severed cap on an old well, or just what and where the persistent problem lies.

But all this is bad news for the local scallop fishery industry as  Provincial authorities wrestle with solution options.
